The 2026 event was in Norwalk
The HBA of Greater Des Moines describes its September 2026 HomeShowExpo as 11 homes in Saddle Ridge, Norwalk. The event has concluded. Its official builder profiles and award results remain useful for project research.
Attribute the category and year
The organizer’s 2026 award list names Embarq for Outdoor Living and Landscaping. Those are specific category results, not a claim that Embarq won every category or is automatically best for every project.
A tour participant is not automatically an award winner. Check the organizer’s result for the year and category, and distinguish a home-quality award from sponsor or trade-relationship recognition.
Translate the example into a project brief
Record what you like about layout, daylight, storage and material choices. Ask which features can be reproduced on your proposed parcel and which depend on that show home’s site or upgrade package.
Confirm who designed and built the example, what is included in the proposed scope and whether a comparable recent client can discuss the construction experience. The tour is one evidence source, alongside entity, registration, permit and contract checks.
Record the project and the award separately
For a useful research file, save the official builder profile and the award result as separate entries. Record the season, category, recipient and any identified home. This avoids turning an event logo or a company’s general award language into a claim about a specific result.
The 2026 Norwalk show provides one set of examples. A prior-year project or award can still be relevant, but keep its year visible. Do not combine different seasons into a current availability claim or imply that a company won a category simply because it appeared at the show.
Ask what made the show home possible
Separate the features you like from the assumptions behind them. Discuss the lot, floor plan, materials, outdoor program and design team. Ask whether the proposal will use the same specifications or a different allowance schedule, and identify any work handled through a separate agreement.
A show home may be useful for understanding a builder’s design approach while remaining a poor cost comparison for a different parcel. Request an example closer to your intended home size, finish level and building route before drawing conclusions about fit.
Turn inspiration into a practical shortlist
Choose a small number of firms with relevant project evidence and ask each to respond to the same brief. Include the actual city, land status, design requirements and desired timing. Keep the initial conversation focused on service fit and the steps required for a written proposal.
Then complete the separate identity, registration, permit and reference checks. An organizer-backed award is a documented recognition; it does not replace a construction agreement, establish available capacity or guarantee the experience of a future project. Use it to inform further questions, alongside the other evidence.
